Five moves that changed the trajectory of emerging economies, and what they now cost to attempt.

This is a study of twenty-five cases across the private, public and civil-society sectors, drawn largely from Africa and South Asia. Each case is an organization whose trajectory changed — not one that grew, but one that moved from participating in a market to shaping the conditions of that market.

Reading across them, five moves recur: build the missing layer, compound each cycle into the next, interoperate on terms you help set, localize around the constraint that actually binds, and persist across the political and funding cycle. None of the five is novel on its own. What the cases show is the sequence, the cost, and the specific failure mode at each step.

You will find an anchor essay for each move, five cases beneath it with what was done and what it cost, an assessment of what machine intelligence changes about attempting the same move now, and a diagnostic that scores your own organization against the five. The material is free and ungated throughout.

THE DIAGNOSTIC

Five questions, one per move, scored zero to three. It takes under ten minutes and returns a profile, the dominant failure mode for each weak move, a recommended entry sequence based on your starting condition, and a ninety-day protocol. No email, no sign-up.
